LORNA TO LIVE ANOTHER DAY

When we arrived in Rio de Janeiro, the first thing we had to do was to get our luggage. After waiting for thirty minutes we realized that Lorna’s suitcase was not coming on the belt. So, I asked a federal agent what to do. He looked for Lorna’s name and found that her suitcase had been retained by customs.

Fear came into my mind. What did Lorna have in her suitcase that would make the federal police retain it? I asked what was in her suitcase. He said to me, “Drugs.” Well, more precisely, it was medication – thousands of antibiotic pills of all kinds to help people who come to our clinic at the hills of Rio de Janeiro. This clinic at our mission serves the poor without cost to anyone.

In my mind I began to evaluate the situation. Medication in quantity is not allowed by federal law, only personal medication. The situation was this: the medication could be confiscated and we would have to pay a large fine. My heart was heavy since our clinic is in desperate need of medication. I said to myself, ” Lord why do we have to lose these medications in a time when the Brazilian children are in desperate need of them?”

Worse than all of that, Lorna could be detained. Lorna is not the type to be in “jail,” not even for a minute. She is the  wife of a Methodist minister and a saint of God doing good in everything she does with her life.

As we approached customs with our other bags, I began to pray. My bags passed and I headed to the sliding doors. I told the guard at the door about the problem.  I could not see Lorna in jail not for a minute. What I did was a miracle. I stayed  on the other side of the automatically sliding doors and with my hands raised up I began to pray. I prayed in Portuguese, English and tongues all at the same time. I was nervous and interceding for Lorna.

The miracle came when the sliding doors opened for someone to come through and the guard overheard me praying in the spirit. (Well, forgive me, but I had an emergency on my hands and it required drastic measures!)When the guard overhead me praying, he said, “OH GLORY!” and motioned to the federal agent as if saying, “This one is from God; let it go!”

They closed Lorna’s suitcase and let her go without any further questions. What a blessing to all of us! I am glad someone in the federal customs of Brazil knows when it’s of God and when it is not of God. This one was of the Lord, for the medicine went directly to the clinic to be given freely to sick children that at this moment are being helped.

OH GLORY!

  3. I often wondered when that would happen. Satan made intervention for evil and to discredit the move of God, but God transformed it into a manifestation of his deliverance. Hallelujah for the God who delivers!

  5. What an amazing testimony of the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life! It takes someone totally surrendered to God to be able to pray so openly and abandoned to Him in such a public place. Regardless of your desperation, your trust in the mighty power of our God speaks to all of us about where we need to be in our relationship with Jesus. It gives me hope that one day I too will have so much trust in the One who saved me that I too will not hesitate to abandon myself to Him and cry out in my desperation. Thank-you for your sharing of how God works in your life for His purpose. Oh, Glory! Amen!!
